About Retaining Ring
Retaining rings sit in a shaft or bore groove to stop bearings, gears and bushings moving axially. External (shaft) and internal (bore) types need matching pliers.
Standards DIN 471 · DIN 472 · DIN 6799 · JIS B 2804
- Spring steel
- Best retention force, the general purpose standard.
- Nickel or zinc plated
- Appearance and basic corrosion protection.
- 304 stainless
- For wet, food and outdoor equipment.
How to choose
- Select by groove diameter and width, not by nominal shaft size.
- E-clips fit from the side, so the shaft need not be dismantled.
- Replace rings after removal — they lose spring force.
