Standard, Tolerance and Material Equivalents

Can't find the specified standard? Many fastener standards have a "strict substitution" relationship (the substitute's dimensional tolerances fall entirely within what the original standard allows). SFP supplies equivalents according to the table below — ✅ grade items are direct substitutes; ⚠ grade items have minor differences, which we state in the quote and only use after you confirm.

You specifyWe supplyGradeNotes
DIN471 / DIN 471JIS B 2804 (C-type retaining ring, external / for shafts, S-ring)✅ Full substitute (tighter than the original standard)Supplied as JIS B 2804 external retaining rings: dimensional tolerances are tighter than DIN 471, so they are a full substitute.
DIN472 / DIN 472JIS B 2804 (C-type retaining ring, internal / for bores, R-ring)✅ Full substitute (tighter than the original standard)Supplied as JIS B 2804 internal retaining rings: dimensional tolerances are tighter than DIN 472, so they are a full substitute.
DIN6799 / DIN 6799JIS B 2804 (E-type retaining ring)⚠ Recommended substitute (differs; confirmed with you before use)We recommend JIS B 2804 E-rings as a substitute for DIN 6799: thickness differs slightly, otherwise compatible. Please check your groove width before adopting.
h8g6 tolerance✅ Full substitute (tighter than the original standard)Supplied in g6 tolerance: the g6 tolerance zone lies entirely within the h8 zone, tighter than required. Each item should be verified against its actual diameter per ISO 286; if the check fails, we do not recommend it.
h7g6 tolerance✅ Full substitute (tighter than the original standard)Supplied in g6 tolerance: the g6 tolerance zone lies entirely within the h7 zone, tighter than required. Each item should be verified against its actual diameter per ISO 286; if the check fails, we do not recommend it.
303 / SUS303SUS304 or SUS316⚠ Recommended substitute (differs; confirmed with you before use)We recommend SUS304 / SUS316 as a substitute for SUS303: equal or better corrosion resistance. A material change is only adopted with your approval.
304 / SUS304SUS316⚠ Recommended substitute (differs; confirmed with you before use)If 304 is out of stock, we recommend SUS316 as a substitute: better corrosion resistance. A material change is only adopted with your approval.

Tolerance substitutions (e.g. g6 for h7/h8) are "verified per diameter": based on the actual diameter of your item, the ISO 286 tolerance zones are calculated on the spot, and the substitution only holds if the substitute zone lies entirely within the required zone (results can differ between diameter ranges; the system makes no global assumptions). Equivalences are added to this table only after SFP engineering confirmation, and the table keeps growing.
