MaterialTypeHeat treatment / hardness (SFP standard)Corrosion resistantTypical use
SUJ2High-carbon chromium bearing steelHardened HRC 56-62No (can be plated)Dowel pins, ejector pins; high hardness and wear resistance
S45CMedium carbon steelQuenched and tempered HRC 36-42No (can be black oxide / plated)General structural pins, machine parts
SUS304Austenitic stainless steelNot through-hardenedExcellentCorrosive environments: food, electronics, outdoor
12L14Free-machining steelUsually not heat treatedNoTurned parts, bodies of internally threaded dowel pins
SK7Carbon tool steel (spring)Hardened and tempered (elastic)No (black oxide / nickel plated)E-rings, C-rings and other spring retaining rings

Hardness values are SFP product standards; for individual items, the product page takes precedence.

How to choose

For "hard and wear resistant" choose SUJ2; for "corrosion resistant" choose SUS304 (lower hardness); for general structural use, S45C. Retaining rings are spring steel (SK7 etc.) by nature; for corrosion resistance choose stainless rings.
