304 stainless cup point socket set screws - the same job as the alloy steel version, pressing a hollow cup end against a shaft to hold a part, chosen instead for corrosion resistance. Note that stainless is softer, so the cup rim bites less well; a single stainless set screw is not recommended for high-speed or high-torque duties.

How to choose

• Stainless cup points grip less than alloy steel - mill a flat on the shaft, or use alloy steel for critical joints.
• The stainless socket is softer and cams out more easily, so seat the key fully.
• Where there is vibration, fit two screws 90 or 120 degrees apart; a single screw works loose.
