About this category

Stainless socket head cap screws drilled through along the axis - vented screws. Driven into a blind hole in a vacuum chamber, an ordinary screw traps a pocket of air beneath it that then bleeds slowly out along the threads and stops the chamber reaching pressure, a virtual leak. The central hole vents it directly, which is why semiconductor tools, vacuum chambers and coating equipment specify these for blind holes. The vent size is quoted, e.g. M10*25 with a 3 mm hole.

How to choose

• Only blind holes need venting - use ordinary cap screws in through holes and save the cost.
• The bore reduces the section, so tightening torque is lower than a solid screw of the same size.
• A vent blocked by grease or residue does nothing - check it is clear before fitting.
