About this category

Wire thread inserts coiled from stainless wire and screwed into a tapped hole, giving a hard-wearing steel thread in softer parent materials such as aluminium and cast iron - and the usual way to repair a stripped thread. Sized as thread x length multiple, where the length is a multiple of the thread diameter, so M10*1.5D is 15 mm deep.

How to choose

Length is given in D: 1D is shortest, 3D grips hardest. Use 2D or more in soft material or high load.
The hole must be tapped with the special oversize tap; a standard tapped hole will not accept the insert.
Snap off the driving tang after fitting - a tang left in the hole will foul the screw.
