Screws with a TORX (star, six-lobe) drive. The lobes meet the driver almost perpendicular, so torque goes straight into the screw instead of pushing the driver out the way a cross recess does - far less cam-out and far less head deformation. Electronics manufacturers and any line that cares about consistent, automated tightening have largely moved from cross recess to TORX. Mostly pan head here, plus button and countersunk, and a tamper-resistant version with a pin in the centre.

How to choose

• TORX is sized by T number (T10, T20...), not by thread - check the driver size when you order.
• A pin in the centre of the recess means tamper-resistant; a plain TORX driver will not enter, you need the pin-in bit.
• Countersunk sits flush, button keeps the head low, pan is the general flat-seat option - same drive, different head.
• Under a power driver TORX lasts far longer than cross recess, which usually pays for itself on high-volume lines.
