Pan head screws with a cross recess - a slightly domed head on a flat bearing face, the usual choice for panels, electrical work and sheet metal. 2-8 mm thread, mostly 304 stainless with nickel and zinc plated options. Some items have a cut point for easier hole alignment.

How to choose

• Use the right driver size - an undersized driver cams out and ruins the recess, after which removal is very hard.
• The head decides how it seats: for a flush finish use countersunk cross-recess screws, which bear on the taper.
• Small pan head screws have a low torque limit and shear easily if forced.
