About this category

Round bearing lock nuts (AN series), slotted around the outside for a hook spanner and used with a lock washer to clamp a rolling bearing on a shaft. All are fine pitch - AN06 is M30 x 1.0. Stocked in carbon steel and stainless, including 26 left-hand thread items for shafts whose rotation would loosen a right-hand nut.

How to choose

• Confirm right- or left-hand thread - they look almost identical and the wrong one works loose.
• Pair it with the same-numbered lock washer (AW/AWS): AN00 with AW00. The bent tab is what stops the nut turning; the nut alone will not hold.
• Fine pitch means diameter alone is not enough: M30x1.0 and M30x1.5 are not interchangeable.
• Use a proper hook spanner; pliers or a punch will destroy the slots.
